Kilcummin 2-12 Firies 1-14

Our senior team scraped over the line in this closely contested encounter in Farranfore on Saturday evening last but showed great courage and determination in doing so. Philip O’ Leary had two early points but Firies led by two after 15 minutes. A Mark O’ Shea point and a Kevin McCarthy goal after 17 minutes saw us lead by two points. Firies rallied however and the teams were level again only for Sean O’ Leary to kick a late point to see  us lead at half time by the minimum 1-4 to 0-6. Firies levelled early in the second half but a Mikey Casey point and a Philip O’ Leary goal following good work from Kevin McCarthy saw us take a four point lead. When Kieran Murphy kicked a two - pointer a minute later we appeared to be in control of the game. However a lapse of concentration in our defence saw the ball end up in Brendan Kealy's net and a galvanised Firies found themselves just three points behind. Despite two further Mikey Casey points, four unanswered scores by Firies left us trailing by a point with 5 minutes left. Kevin McCarthy and Cian Foley forged us ahead but Firies levelled again in injury time. In the final play of the game up stepped man of the match Philip O' Leary to seal victory in a thrilling contest. While Kilcummin will not be happy with certain aspects of their performance they still showed great resilience in overcoming a very impressive Firies team and now look forward to a home game against John Mitchells at the weekend.

Team Brendan Kealy, James Williams, Dara Stack, Chris O’ Leary, Sean O’ Leary, Dara O’ Callaghan, James Nagle, Colm Kelleher, Kieran Murphy, Mark O’ Shea, Ian Devane, Cian Foley, Mikey Casey, Gary O’ Leary, Philip O’ Leary. Subs used, Kevin McCarthy, Matt Keane, Kevin Gorman, Paul O’ Shea and Jack Fogarty.
